Residential Pool Winterization

GTP will call to schedule the appointment opening the week before. 8am–Noon OR Noon–4:00.
A cell cleaning and inspection will be done at time of closing - $50.00/cell unless declined.
Removal of deep end ladder, handrails, & step handrails are included in the cost of the closing.
  • Pool closings are scheduled by the week according to geographical location
  • Cost for pool closing is quoted individually depending on pool type, pool size, cover, and filter type.
  • Additional services will be invoiced at $125.00 per man hour, plus materials.

Pool closing includes:

  • Removal of equipment drain plugs from equipment and open valves, as necessary, including pump, heater, filter, and chlorinator where applicable.
  • Removal of skimmer baskets and directional flow outlets, drain or blow suction and return lines, add anti-freeze if applicable, install winter plugs and skimmer freeze protection device as needed.
  • Removal of handrails, deep end ladder, and step handrails as necessary.
  • Add winterizing chemicals (chemicals not included in closing price).
  • Cover pool with winter cover as marked above (cover must be within 10 feet of pool and accessible to technicians) NOTE: Technicians will only use recommended products with covers per manufacturer instructions. Example: Winter tarp type covers - water bags, above ground pool covers - cable and winch or strap and ratchet.

Homeowner Responsibilities:

  • Any debris including pool toys, branches, leaves, animal waste, etc. must be removed from the pool/pool deck area. (Return visits incur $125/service fee).
  • Balance water and shock the pool within 1 week of pool closing. We recommend bringing a pre-closing water sample to the store to be tested.
  • Automatic pool covers - Water must be pumped off.
  • All winterizing equipment including cover must be easily visible from and within 10 feet of pool
  • Accessibility to chemicals.
  • Electrical access and water must be available at pool area for pool closing
  • Store removed accessories after closing unless requested (see closing form).
  • Store solar cover unless requested (see closing form).

Important Reminders:

  • All winterizing equipment and access must be available by 8:00 am Monday of the closing week.
  • Technicians will not be able to balance water chemistry at time of closing. We recommend bringing a pre-closing water sample to the store one week prior to pool closing and/or and shocking the pool a few days before pool closing.
  • Technician will not provide any pool cleaning/vacuuming at time of pool closing unless requested. (see closing form).
  • Technicians will only use recommended products with covers per manufacturer instructions. Example: Winter tarp type covers - water bags, above ground pool covers - cable and winch or strap and ratchet.
